The #CoopEffect

How do we get started?

We are ready to contribute to the design and delivery of the government’s planned Innovation Agenda on behalf of our members.

In Canada, our members help provide steady growth in the economy, fill gaps in rural and remote communities, build enterprises that can compete globally, and contribute to social and environmental progress. There are 9,000 co‑operatives and mutuals in Canada, and 18 million of us are members of a co‑operative. How do we create more and better co-operatives?

A first step would be for the Government of Canada to adopt motion M-100. M-100 is a Private Member’s Motion, tabled by Liberal M.P. Alexandra Mendès (Brossard – La Prairie), to establish a framework that will promote the development of co-operatives in Canada. The motion asks Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) to establish a national co-operative development strategy.
